Student Support
The Center for Minority Health submitted a proposal to the Office of the Provost focused on recruitment, retention and support of disadvantaged students in the Graduate School of Public Health. This funding mechanism will provide scholarships for some students. It is NOT a fund for GSR tuition remission and therefore will not provide full tuition coverage. These funds may be used for books, computers, travel to professional meetings (APHA, SOPHE, etc) or other education related costs. Because the funds are limited, the Center for Minority Health and the Office of Student Affairs will give partial scholarships to several students. While students with GSR positions may apply for funds, requests from students without a GSR will have priority.
Additionally, special consideration will be given to students interested in teaching, research and service activities focused on the elimination of racial and ethnic health disparities in the following priority areas:
- Infant mortality
- Cancer screening and management
- Diabetes
- HIV/AIDS
- Cardiovascular disease
- Immunization
- Mental illness
Eligible students must be GSPH students who are US citizens from any one of the under represented racial/ethnic minority groups (African American, Hispanic, Native American). While an award does not carry a work obligation, students may chose to work with a faculty mentor on a range of activities in the CMH, including but not limited to, community-based health promotion and disease prevention, program evaluation, cultural competence training, health literacy, and participatory research with our community partners. Either a faculty member or student may submit the application.
We must receive applications no later than noon September 1, 2007. Please click below to complete an online application form.
