Obituary: BARBARA G. HALE

Barbarba Gandy, 80, a resident of Pgh. for more than 50 yrs. died peacefully on Sun. Jan. 27, 2008. Surrounded by her daughters Pamela Danielle Chavarria, Deborah Hale Schexnydre, & Barbara Hale Bey. Preceded in death by her daughter Nancy Hale & former husband Dr. Edward H. Hale. Barbara held various professional positions over the years, most notably, with the Pittsburgh Office of the National Urban League & The Allegheny County Dept. of Aging & Center for Minority Health at the University of Pittsburgh. She served as a leader in many civic & social organizations as a way of expressing love for her city & its people. Barbara is also survived by son-in-law Merrell Schexndre, her grandchildren Khalil & Nadia Bey, Aja (Carlos) Ramirez, Sean & Lea Schexndre & a host of cherished friends & colleagues. A Memorial Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday Feb. 16, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Calvary Episcopal Church. GAINES FUNERAL HOME in charge of Arrangements.
